After 70 years the 2CV goes electric!

About 1 year ago it struck me that one of Europe’s most iconic cars, the Citroën 2CV, could do with a 21st century make-over.

Known officially as the Citroën 2 Chevaux Vapeur, this car was first introduced over 70(!) years ago.

Over the last year in my free time I re-imagined, re-designed, re-built in 3D the electric, self-driving successor to the iconic 2CV

I am certainly not the first to re-imagine this iconic French car but even Citroën’s own attempt from 2007 leaves a lot to the imagination.

Please enjoy my concept for the electric, self-driving Citroën eCV!

some observations

Another observation comes from a trip to Paris where it occurred to me that the French capital does not really have a ‘taxi icon’ like the black cabs of London or the yellow cabs of New York.

What if Paris decided to electrify the city’s taxi fleet and while they’re at it – give it an iconic design? Click here for my concept for the new Taxi PARISIEN

With electric cars becoming commonplace and autonomous driving on the horizon, carmakers are increasingly bringing their design classics into the 21st century. Take for example the Urban EV from Honda or the Smart Vision EQ fortwo concept car.

Even Peugeot decided to go nostalgic when designing the e-LEGEND.
So why not Citroën? After all, this is a company with a portfolio of cars that will lend themselves perfectly for an electric upgrade.

Citroen 2CV dashboard

Designing the Citroën eCV extended all the way to the look-and-feel of the user interface.

When you consider that modern electric cars swap a traditional dashboard for, what is effectively an oversized iPad, the UI and UX design is very important.

Having said that, this is a self-driving concept so I decided to keep it simple by paying hommage to the graphics of the original (very minimal!) dashboard of the Citroën 2CV.
